  • Should exotic species of animals and plants be banned?

i saw a TV show today about pythons and monitor lizards in the everglades. they are wreaking havoc. pet owners get tired of them and release them into the wild. some exotic plants are put into peoples yards. birds, spread their seeds everywhere. where i live , we have kudzu, fire ants, tropical soda apple, codon grass, smutgrass, , just to name a few. they are all problem species. should congress ban exotic species and remove all exotic plants and animals form peoples yards, and end the sale of them?

Should exotic species of animals and plants be banned?
Yes, that would be a great idea. However, it would be a little trickier to get rid of all the exotic species that have already spread into the environment.

Buffle grass has spread in many areas of the Southwest where it chokes out every other plant around them. They are so efficient at sucking water out of the ground that there is nothing left for anything else. All the native species die. It's really hard to get rid of hundreds of square miles of a plant or animal species that kills everything it touches.

That's the problem with all these exotics that have spread. It would take thousands of people, hundreds of tons of pesticide. You get the idea.

Contact an organization that might have ideas for getting rid of these such as World Wildlife Fund, National Wildlife Federation, The Nature Conservancy, or any other group that you feel might be interested in this problem.

Reply:This issue is pretty serious and it could be very dangerous to the environments but I think completely banning them is not nessecary. However, there should be very specific laws. Some species should not even be exported period.

there are some positive impacts from exporting species. For example, some species in their natural habitat is near extinct but with a solid research they could be safe in a new home.
Reply:Should people be banned as they give harm to other species of animals and plants?

Unfortunately, thousand of species were banned and as long as human exists in this world they will always be. We have never achieved to live in natural environment and never will be. So let it be-ban all the animals and plants until we start to ban eachother. uppps, this has already happened, hasn't it

Salmon engineered to spawn Trout - Is it good or bad?

I just read this article on the net. Scientists have developed a procedure to alter newly hatched salmon to grow up to produce a specific type of trout. They are looking at it as a potential way to increase populations of endangered species. While I find the study fascinating, I remember the infamous Kudzu vine and how man's best intentions can alter the ecosystem. I have mixed feelings - what are yours?

Salmon engineered to spawn Trout - Is it good or bad?
Once Upon A Time there was natural order and nature flurished rightly.

    Then Man came....

    The End!

Saw this too and just shook my head.

We really need to quit playing God and messing with Nature!

I think this is wrong, as well as cloning, i know, two different things, but i am against this kind of thing.

You're right, it can mess up the eco-system.
Reply:It could be good for producing more food sources. Yet they could also get bad consequences.
Reply:Just because you can, doesn't mean you should still holds weight for some, but not for the creative world of science, they are definitely a one tracked mind. They remind me of a drug manufacturing company gone wild ,in the wilderness of life and all of us are caught up in their network. They laid claims to the world and now, philosophy gets to write about how science has made different species of life and thought. There is also the science of religions and the blind watchers, the tunnel builders for quick escape when a claim falls through. The fascinating world view of those who use science, amazing grains of truth. Thanks for the question.
Reply:you bet ye, hopefully they get cheaper in the market.

Are aromatase inhibitors (in supplements) illegal for athletes and military personnel?

Universal Nutrition's Animal M-stak contains 5,7-Dihydroxyflavone and Kudzu Extract which are listed as aromatase inhibitors. I'm not exactly sure which agencies/authorities govern legality of these and other sports supplements. Any help appreciated before I try something out and pop on a urine test.

Are aromatase inhibitors (in supplements) illegal for athletes and military personnel?
Aromatase inhibition, the abstract concept, just prevents estrogens from being produced, it makes no claims as to how androgens and other hormones are effected.

For example, aromasin, a Rx only aromatase inhibitor by itself does not have androgen effects, a metabolite it is turned into does. Has it made it on the list, I do not know, but I see why it could make it on the list.

So, although I do not know the answer to this question, I can tell you that you should check first on what this particular inhibitor does in terms of androgens, second you should actually check with the olympic officials regarding a list of banned substances. It would be logical to assume that if it has androgenic effects it would be banned, but as the site listed below mentions sometimes supplements have ingredients not listed on the package which are banned.

    Here are two sites:

Can anyone suggest a good Private Investigator?

I have heard John F Brewington of JFB Acquisitions is licensed and belongs to many professional groups. He has good ratings on Kudzu.

Can anyone suggest a good Private Investigator?
I found John Brewington, an Arizona Private Investigator with JFB Acquisitions listed on the internet. He seems to have some internet defamation cases on the front pages of national news papers. Does any one else have experiences?
Reply:I can tell you he is amazing and his cases appear on the front pages of news papers. I have reached him at 602-490-0676.

How do i kill kudzue vines?

has a slope with kudzu vines tried cutting them even tride weed killer but they dont want to die

How do i kill kudzue vines?
The easiest way to kill Kudzu, as long as it is not growing up any trees, is to rob it of its sunlight. Find someone who is renovating their house and throwing away wall to wall carpet and ask if you can have it. Cut it to fit your area with a utility box cutter and throw it over the vine and let it sit there for about 6 weeks to 3 months. Maybe more... its a pretty tough plant to kill since the roots can be as deep as 8 feet and 3 inches around. The ultimate result comes from leaving the sunblocking carpet on long enough that the roots die and start to decay. Only then will you truly have it beat.
Reply:Not from personal experience, rather a man I worked with, his back-half of his property was taken over with them. He tried everything the several years I worked with him, and nothing worked. He spent a lot of money on weed killers that promised to get rid of them. Finally, he hired someone with a back-hoe to scrape %26amp; dig them up. His yard now is beautiful!!!
Reply:Try a systemic brush killer "over the counter" like Ortho - Brush B Gone. Something like Round-up won't do in this scenario usually. Spray in mid-morning on fresh ground foliage. Spray liberally on the foliage and be very careful about over spray on to desirable plants as the herbicide will most likely take out anything you spray it on (Avoid windy days!) After about a week, cut all the Kudzu out of your slope. You will definitely have to apply this several times (maybe over a years time) as new sprouts come up. Don't let them mature so that the Tubers are doing all the heavy lifting and eventually peter out or take in the herbicide itself. =)

    Reply:Thats a tough one..try Crossbow spray maybe...
Reply:Good Luck with trying to get rid of that. They say that back in the old days that people wouldn't leave their windows open at night because the Kudzu would come into their homes over night. What a dreadful thing to have brought to the south.
    Reply:Diesel fuel
Reply:You can either use "Crossbow" or "Garlon 3A"

Both are labeled for kudzu. You can also use

a high rate of Roundup that has a active ingredient

    of 41% or higher.

But, as it is started to get cold, and it will be dying

back, you should wait until spring as the kudzu is

starting to grow back. It will be easier to control

    that way.
